Abstract
Objective To explore the electrocardiographic(ECG) characteristics of ventricular premature contractions(VPCs) in the elderly with organic heart diseases. Methods The ECG of 132 elderly patients with VPCs related to organic heart diseases and 94 control subjects with VPCs unrelated to organic heart diseases were observed. Results In patients with organic heart diseases, there were 98 cases of VPCs originated from left ventricle, and 34 from right ventricle.By contrast, only 20 controls had VPCs originated from left ventricle, whereas 74 from right ventricle.68.2%,77.3%,and 87.2% of elderly patients were observed R-amplitude less than 20 mV,QRS duration longer than 0.12 s,and notched QRS,respectively. The differences were significant as compared to controls(P0.05). Conclusions Originating from left ventricle,R-amplitude less than 20 mV,QRS duration longer than 0.12 s,and notched QRS can be regarded as the ECG characteristics of VPCs related to organic heart diseases in the elderly.
