Abstract
Thermal simulation experiments to model hydrocarbon generation of a sou rce rocks and to determine its kinetic parameters are mainly carried out in a closed system. However,in some petroleum-bearing basins, the geological conditions of source roc ks are more similar to an open system. In this paper, the instrument multi -cool traps GC,a patented product of Calif ornian Institute of Technology,is a pplied, with the combination of the s oftware Kinetics,to model the petroleum gen eration of an Early Tertiary source r ock taken from the Dongying Depression. The results show that the activated e nergy distribution of the source rock for the generation of C 1~5 ,C 13 + ,C 6~12 and C 1 + are 238~339,205~268,222~272and 251~285kJ /mol,respectively.On the b asis of this, the burial and geothermal history of the source roc k is used to model the petroleum generation history, oil /gas ratio and different composition ratio of the ES 4 source rock from the well LJ101,located at the depression center.A method has been suggested for evaluation of hydroca rbon generation amount of source rocks in a petroleum-bearing basin, whi ch is based on the source rocks kinetic parameters.A case study is provided for the investigation of the hydrocarbon generation kinetic parameters of a s ource rock in open system and their th e application to source rock evaluation.
