Primary study on diversity of winter bird resources in Paihu Wetland Nature Reserve of Hubei Province

The survey on winter bird resources and habitats of Paihu Wetland Nature Reserve in Xiantao of Hubei province during 17～23 of November and 22～28 of December of 2008 had recorded 68 species of birds,belonging to 31 families of 15 orders.The study on bird ecotype,fauna and key protected birds revealed that there were 27 wintermigrant species,29 resident species,11 summermigrant species and 1 traveling species.There were 35 palaearctic species,20 oriental species and 13 cosmopolitan species.7 species were under national priority protection,28 species under Hubei p rovincial priority protection.8 species were listed in CITES and 3 in CRDB(China Red Data Book of Endangered Animals).Based on study results and the existing problems in the reserve,a conservation strategy is suggested.
