Abstract

Objective To study the effect of one-stage urethroplasty with transverse preputial island flap(Duckett's procedure)performed for hypospadias. Methods From April 1997 to April 2003,14 cases of hypospadias were treated by transverse preputial island flap urethroplasty. The age of the patients ranged from 2 to 28 years, mean 9 years. In 14 cases,3 were glans and subcoronal type,9 penile type,2 penoscrotal type. Results The operation was successful in 11 patients(78%).Urethral fistula occurred in 3 patients(21%).2 patients who developed urethral fistula were repaired successfully six month after operation. One who developed urethral fistula was self-healed two weeks after operation. No urethral stricture occurred in all cases.9 patients were followed up for 6~24 months with satisfactory result. Conclusion Duckett's procedure is a fairly advisable technique for hypospadias.
