Relation between serum levels of adiponectin and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule and diabetic nephropathy in type 1 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Objective To analyze the relationship between serum levels of adiponectin and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule and renal function in type 1 diabetes mellitus.Methods Clinical history of 75 cases of type 1 diabetes mellitus were reviewed.Results(1) Significant differences in serum levels of adiponectin were observed between the patients(17.47±6.36) μg/mL and control subjects(13.98±5.63)μg/mL,(P0.01).(2) There were inverse correlations between adiponectin and BMI,insulin,WHR,fasting TG and glomerular filtration rate,and positive correlations between adiponectin and sVCAM-1 HDL,LDL,and total cholesterol.Conclusion Increased adiponectin level is observed in type 1 diabetic patients and is positively associated with impairment of renal function,and there is a positive association between adiponectin and endothelial damage.
