Discussion of Dai Zhen's Influence on Textual Criticism in Qing Dynasty

Abstract

Dai Zhen knew the difference between ancient and modern of sound.On the basis of the archaeological and sound theory,he concluded ancient sound system and the regulation of Zhuanyu,and applied it to collating.After his disciple such as Duan Yu-cai,Wang Nian-sun and his son carrying forward,applying sound to collating became one biggest characteristic of collation in Qing dynasty.Dai Zhen was the first one to summarize error rules.Following his guidance,other scholar also summarized rules and trended to fine results.Chen Yuan's Annotation to Textual Criticism marked the formation of textual criticism in Qing dynasty,but his research idea learned all from Dai Zhen.Dai Zhen advocated ancient book but not blindly followed.With his solid literature foundation of basic skills,he corrected and published these books in the world.Duan Yu-cai,Wang Nian-sun and his son followed their teacher and finally formed reasoning proofreading school.Dai Zhen had profound influence on the textual criticism in Qing dynasty.
