Abstract

Objective:To investigate the feasibility and short-term therapeutic effect of laparoscopic and open anterior resection of rectal cancer. Methods:The clinical data of 18 cases underwent laparoscopic anterior resection of rectal cancer and 25 cases underwent open anterior resection of rectal cancer in our hospital from Feb.2004 to Apr.2008 were analyzed retrospectively. Results:The mean operation time of laparoscopic group and open group was(248.06±77.48)min and(180.6±16.91)min respectively, the difference between two groups was significant(P=0.00);The intra-operative blood loss of laparoscopic group was obviously less than that of open group(44.44±46.17)ml vs.(107.60±79.23)ml,(P=0.03).There was no significant difference between the number of cleared lymph node(11.5±2.75)vs.(11.16 ±3.02),(P=0.604).The gastrointestinal function of laparoscopic group recovered more quickly than open group(2.0±0.7)d vs.(4.28±1.21)d,(P=0.033).Conclusions:Laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer is safe and effective. It has advantages of less blood loss and trauma, earlier postoperative recovery, and similar radical effect as laparotomy.
