Abstract
Three different methods were used to treat Acacia saligna seeds for germination. The results indicated that sulfuric acid treating, ethanol soaking and hot water soaking seeds had different impacts on the seed imbibition rate, germination potential and germination rate. The highest imbibition rate of 100% was observed by the treatment of hot water. The highest germination rate of 90% and the highest germination potential of 72.15% were observed when the seeds were soaked into 80°C hot water for 40 min. However, the effects of sulfuric acid treating and ethanol soaking had not obviously different from the control treatment.Analysis of variance and multiple comparisons indicated that the average germination rate of seeds treated with 80℃ hot water for 40min was significantly greater than the other treatments.
