Status of overweight/obesity and its influencing factors among residents in combination area of city and country in Beijing City

Objective To understand the status of overweight/obesity and its influencing factors among residents in combination areas of city and country in Haidian District,Beijing City.Methods A total of 19003 residents aged 18 years old and above were selected with multi-stage random cluster sampling from 30 administrative villages of 5 rural towns in combination areas of city and country in Haidian District.A survey was conducted among them to investigate the situation of overweight / obesity and its influencing factors. Results The prevalence rates of overweight and obesity of the participants were 41.04% and 23.75%,respectively.The standardized prevalence rates of overweight and obesity according to the age data of Beijing residents in 2002 were 39.38% and 22.95%,both higher than the prevalence rates that were shown in reports of nutrition and health status of Beijng in 2002(P0.05).Multi-logistic regression showed that age,drinking,highly oil-contained diet were risk factors of overweight and obesity,and their ORS were 1.05,1.79 and 2.28,respectively.Heavy intensity occupation,active physical exercise,highly vegetable-contained diet were protective factors of overweight and obesity,and their ORS were 0.83,0.69 and 0.77,respectively.Conclusion The prevalence of overweight and obesity is high in combination area of city and country in Haidian District of Beijing City.There are bad habits of behaviors and diets among residents.Comprehensive measures should be taken to deal with overweight and obesity.
