Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Carcinoma: A Clinicopathological Study of 10 Cases

Abstract

Objective To study the clinicopathological features of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine carcinoma (GNC),and to elucidate its diagnosis and differential diagnosis.Methods clinicopathologic analysis and immunohistochemical staining were performed in 10 cases of GNC. Results: The course of the disease was aggressive in 7 of the 10 cases. Histologically, there were 4 cases of atypiacal carcinoid and 6 of small cell type. The tumor cells showed a positive test for CK、NSE、CgA and Syn.Conclusion GNC Has a pleomorphic appearance of histological features with well, moderate and poor-differentiated areas. Histological type of the tumor is important for clinical therapy and prognostic evaluation. Immunohistochemical staining is helpful in differential diagnosis of GNC from other gastrointestinlal tumors.
