Abstract
This paper deals with seven species of the genus Phorocera R.-D. of the familyLarvaevoridae, collected from China (except one species from Japan). Among them,three species are described as new to science, with characteristics given as follows. Thetypes of the new species are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica,Peking. 1. Phorocera amurensis Chao, sp. nov. (Figs. 1, 2) ?. Frons as broad as 1/2 of the eye, protruding; orbits with black hairs, descend-ing to the cheeks below the insertions of arista; eyes densely covered with pale hairs. An-tennae black, the third segment four times as long as the second, cheeks rather narrow, 2/3as broad as the third segment of antennae. Vibrissae ascending to 2/5 the height ofvibrissal ridges. Palpi reddish-yellow. Thorax black, with greyish-brown dust and fiveblack longitudinal stripes; α 3+3, dc 3+4, ia 1+3, st 2+1; scutellum reddish-yellowon apical 3/4, apical scutellar bristles strong, as long as lateral bristles, somewhat erectand crossing. Legs black, midtibia with 3 ad. Abdomen black, with greyish-brownpruinose, Obscure reddish-yellow at the sides of second to fourth tergites, second tergitewith the excavation reaching hind margin; third and fourth tergites each with a pairof discal bristles. Upper forceps long and narrow, very like those of Exorita japonica T. T., but the arms of lower forceps of the same length as the upper forceps (Fig. 2).Length 9 mm.Holotype ?, Heilungkiang (Dailing), Ⅴ17, 1963.2. Phorocera normalis Chao, sp. nov. (Fig. 3) ?. Frons of about the breadth of the eye; cheeks a little narrower than the thirdsegment of antennae (Fig. 3). Head densely covered with grey dust. Antennae black,the third joint three times as long as the second. Orbital hairs descending to upper2/5-1/2 parts of the cheeks; vibrisal ascending to 1/2-3/5 the height of vibrisal ridges.Palpi reddish-yellow. Thorax black, greyish-pruinose, with five black longitudinalstripes, the mid one of them disappearing before the suture; α3+3, dc 3+3, ia 1+3,st 2+1, scutellum black, apical scutellar bristles erect and crossing. Legs black; clawsand pulvilli short; mid tibia with 2 ad. Abdomen black, with greyish-brown dust, theexcavation of second tergite reaching hind margin, third and fourth tergites each with apair of discal bristles. Last abdominal segments normal. Length 5.5-6 mm. Holotype ?: Heilungkiang (Dailing), Ⅴ24, 1963. Paratype ?: Heilungkiang (Dai1ing), Ⅴ24, 1963. 3. Phorocera bicolor Chao, sp. nov. (Figs. 4, 5) ?. This new species resembles Phorocera agilis R.-D., but body differently colour-ed; basicosta reddish-yellow; abdomen with brownish-yellow hairs at the base in lowersurface; orbits with yellow dust, and with dense black hairs, descending to the checksbelow the insertions of arista (Fig. 4); third and fourth tergites of abdomen lacking dis-cal bristles; and the forceps different in form (Fig. 5). Holotype ?: Kagoshima (Japan), Ⅳ 25, 1935. Allotype ?: Kagoshima (Japan), Ⅳ 25, 1935. Paratypes 4 ??: Kagoshima (Japan), Ⅳ 25, 1935.
