Abstract

The magasporogenesis,microsporogenesis and the development of male gametophyte,female gametophyte of Limonium frantii were observed by means of paraffin wax fixation and microscopic technique.The results were as follows:(1) Anther wall comprised 5 layers: epidermis,endothecium,two middle layers and tapetum,the development of the anther wall was of the Basic Type.There were tanning in epidermis' cell.Endothecium was fibrous.The tapetum with two-nucleate cells was glandular.(2) The microspore mother cells underwent meiotic divisions,cytokinesis simultaneously.Tetrads were tetrahedral.(3) The mature pollen grains were three-celled.(4) The development of embryo sac was of the Fritillaria type.(5) The side of egg nucleate was especially,it laid in not chalazal side but micropylar side.(6) Usually,the egg apparatus can not be differentiated normally.(7) The overly developed embryo sac was observed.(8) Two embryo sacs in one ovule were observed.
