Abstract

To process images on a general computer by using software will take up nearly all of the operation capability of the CPU and hence the processing speed is relatively slow. Because of the powerful processing capability, Digital Signal Processors (DSP) can be used to fast implement all kinds of digital signal processing algorithms and have found wide applications in the field of image processing. In this paper, the development, structures and characteristics of DSP chips are described and their applications and future development in the field of image processing are presented in more detail.
