Abstract

Objective:To study the effects of genistein on cell proliferation of human colon cancer cell line HT - 29.Methods:The effects of genistein on cell proliferation of human colon cancer cell line HT -29 was determined by MTT colorimetric method. The effects of genistein on cell cycle and apoptosis of HT - 29 was determined by flow cytometry assay. Results:Genistein could significantly inhibit HT -29 cell proliferation in a dose dependent manner and IC_(50) of genistein was 23μmol/L.Genistein could cause HT -29 cell cycle arrest in G_0/G_1 period and induce HT -29 cell apoptosis.Western blot showed elevated Bax expression and decreased Bcl -2 expression. Conclusion:Genistein could inhibit HT - 29 cell proliferation by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.
