Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the mechanism of imipenem resistance in clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. METHODS OprM gene is one part of the active efflux pump MexAB-OprM gene, the level of mRNA expressions of OprM in clinical P. aeruginosa isolates was determined by RT-PCR, and rpoD gene as an intrinsic control. RESULTS The levels of mRNA expression of OprM in imipenem-resistant strains were higher than those in susceptible ones(P0.05). CONCLUSIONS The study indicated that the mRNA level of expressions of MexAB-OprM determines the level of imipenem-resistance in P. aeruginosa.
