Abstract

Amphoteric terpolymers composed of acrylamide(AM),acrylic acid(AA) and 2-methylacryloylxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(DMC) were prepared via free-radical dispersion polymerization in aqueous ammonium sulfate media using 2,2′-azobis(2-methylpropionconidine) dihydrochloride(V-50) as initiator and poly(2-methylacryloylxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride)(PDMC) as cationic polymeric stabilizer. The influences of the PDMC molecular weight,pH value of reaction medium, reaction temperature and stirring speed on the dispersion system were systemically investigated. The structure was studied by FT-IR and scanning electron microscope(SEM).The dispersions had obvious sphere-phase boundaries and the suitable reaction conditions were as follows: PDMC molecular weight 30×104—46×104,pH value of reaction medium 5.0—6.5,reaction time 55—65 ℃,stirring speed 75—125 r·min-1.
