Natural Scenery Description & Modernization of Poetic Meaning in Contemporary Mainland China Novels

Abstract

The poetic characteristics of novels refer to the literary stylistic characteristics and the aesthetic characteristics manifested in the novels' narration that constitutes the totality of spiritual characteristics in the whole narration. This article outlined the poetic meanings of natural scenery description in both Chinese classical and modern novels. From the mixed poem language to the fusion of poetic narration, the poetic meaning of novels constituted complexities, which is accompanied by the literary stylistic changes and the spiritual vicissitudes of narrators. In classical novels, the fusion of natural scenery description displayed literary style evolution of novels. In modern novels, natural scenery description has improved so much as to be the specimen in the narrative modernization of the subject's consciousness after the May Fourth Movement.
