Abstract
Long glass fiber reinforced polypropylene(LGFPP)was modified by intumescent flame retardant(IFR)and organic montmorilonite(OMMT).The synergistic flame retarding effect of IFR and OMMT on the flame retardancy and thermal stability of LGFPP was investigated. The flame retardancy, thermal stability and the charred layers after burning were analyzed by limit oxygen index(LOI),thermal analysis(TGA)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results showed that the addition of OMMT improved the flame retardancy and thermal stability of LGFPP/IFR.When the content of OMMT was 2 wt%,the LOI value of the system was 24.2%,and the sample could form a dense silicate protective layer after burning.
