Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical correlation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α in cervical carcinoma. Methods The expressions of HIF-1α in 40 cases of formalin-fixed,paraffin-embeded cervical carcinoma tissues,10 cases of cervicitis tissues and 10 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia tissues, were examined using StreptAvidin-Biotin Complex immunohistochemical method. Results HIF-1α was mainly localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm of tumor cell.It was expressed in each group with different levels,But the expression rates of HIF-1α in cervical carcinoma were significantly higher than those in cervicitis tissues and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia tissues(P 0.05).They were well associated with the clinic stages,radiosensitivity,5-year survival time and meta-stasis as lymph node, skeleton, liver, lung etc of the carcinoma(P 0.05).Conclusion The high level expressions of HIF-1α may serve as meaningful indicators for early diagnosis, predict distant metastasis and radiation sensitivity, clinical prognosis of the cervical carcinoma.
