Open publisher page 3 citations

Abstract

Characteristics of membrane bioreactors (MBR) used in wastewater treatment are reviewed and the major influencing factors on membrane fouling are discussed in this paper. The research on membrane fouling and its mathematical model are summarized, and several typical models are given as examples. Some measures to control membrane fouling are presented according to modifying the physicochemical properties of membrane material, improving the properties of mixed liquor of activated sludge, optimizing operation conditions. Cleaning of fouled membrane and related problems to be considered during design and operation of MBRs are introduced. Suggestion for the further study is also given.
