Abstract

An experiment was made to induce polyploidy in ginger ( Zingiber officinale Roscse) with 5 methods of colchicine treatment.Best results for inducing tetraploid plantets were obtained when the explants were cultured for 5 days in a medium supplemented with colchicine at 30 mg/L,the induction frequency being 65.0%. Induction frequency was 27.5%,22.5% and 47.5%,respectively, when the leaves were stripped and the bare growth tips were treated with 0.1% colchicine by injection, soaking and embedding with adsorbent cotton. No tetraploid plantets were differentiated in the treatment of colchicine dropping.
