Relevance theory and discourse analysis in literature——A case study of A Day's Wait

Abstract

This article makes an analysis of Hemingway's A Day's Wait by relevance theory in terms of cognitive context,mutual-manifestness,communicative intention,and relevance principles.The purpose is to demonstrate the role of relevance in discourse analysis of both understanding literary works and oral communication.
