Abstract

The synthesis of n-butyl acetate with acetic acid and n-butanol as reactants and catalyst ferric chloride supported by silica was studied. The influence factors and the optimum synthetic conditions were investigated by experiments arranged by orthogonal design. The optimum reaction conditions were as fellows: The molar ratio of acetic acid to n-butanol was 1.4∶1.0. The mass ratio of catalyst to reactants was 3.16%. The reaction time was 45min. The reaction temperature was 120℃. The yield of butyl acetate reached 86.36%.
