Abstract
Applying the theory of geographic information images and the dynamic models of land use, this paper constructs the images of land use change in Xianning City from 1996 to 2005,with the help of RS and GIS,and analyzes the land use change in the research area from 1996 to 2005 and measures the ecological effects. The results of the research indicate that cultivated land, unused land were shrinking, forest land and construction land growing, forest land increase being the largest, and that dynamic change of construction land was the most prominent, followed by that of cultivated land during the study period. The change of land use resulted in an increase of 1.78×10~8 yuan in the ecosystem services value(ESV).The paper concludes that the largest change in land use is in the conversion from cultivated land to forest land and from cultivated land to construction land. The negative effect caused by construction occupation of cultivated has been offset by the positive effect in converting cropland to forest land. With the adjustment of land use structure, land ecological service quantity of the whole city first declined and then rose and remains steady. The empirical analysis proves that geographic information images analysis based on RS and GIS can help solve the problems of the spatial-temporal change in land use and ecological effect quantification effectively.
