Abstract

The figure-ground plans of central Berlin is a kind of series of publications of Berlin, which are used to trace the historical memory that new Berlin lacks. The transformation of central Berlin was made clear by the figure-ground plans of I 945,1953,1980, 2000 and 2010.These five versions of the urban center also document the destruction and reconstruction after the World War II in Berlin during different historic phases, and thus indicate indirectly the corresponding historical and social background.
