Abstract
Related indicators to drought resistance were measured for 16 millet(Panicum miliaceum L.) varieties at germination stage under simulated drought stress using polyethylence glycol(PEG)-6000 solution.Drought resistance was comprehensively evaluated with subordinative function at this stage to investigate the response of varieties to drought stress. Results showed significant drought resistance among 16 millet varieties.Seed germination speed and rate were decreased by restraining seed germination vigor under drought stress. The inhibitory effect of drought stress on radicle was stronger than on embryo. Therefore, germination drought resistance index, relative germination rate, relative germination energy, relative germ and radicle length, relative germination index and relative vigor index were able to be used as effective indicators for drought resistance identification at the germination stage of millet.Hequhong millet,Yihong millet and Nianfeng millet 5 having stronger drought resistance were tested.
