Abstract
The enhanced biological phosphorus removal(EBPR) as a high efficient phosphorus removal technology is widely applied in wastewater treatment,it has broad application prospect both at home and abroad.Polyphosphate accumulating organism(PAOs) and glycogen accumulating organism(GAOs) are two main microorganisms which could influencr the stability of EBPR process. Therefore, the studies of the two microorganisms have significant importance in improving the stability of EBPR process.Base on the comprehensive literature review, the paper summarize the species and metabolism mechanism of PAOs and GAOs,the factors which could influence the competition of PAOs and GAOs in EBPR process are also introduced. Finally, the direction of future research of PAOs and GAOs is prospected.
