Anterior extraperitioneal lumbar disc excision for the extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation

Objectives:To introduce an operative method for the extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation.Methods:6 cases were treated with anterior extraperitoneal lumbar disc excision and lumbar intervertebral bone grafting.Results:follow up study was carried out for 12～36 months in 6 cases.All patients resumed routine work and had not serious complicatins,besides slightly back pain in 2 patients.X ray film showed the fusion of intervertebral bone grafting were good in 3 patients.Conclusions:Anterior extraperitoneal operation is beneficial to the lumbar stability and can reduce postoperative complications .It is an effective method for the extreme lateral disc herniation.
