Serum IL-17, IL-6 and TGF-β1 levels in Patients with Gastric Cancer and their Clinical Significances

Abstract
Objective: To explore the expression level of serum interleukin(IL)-17, IL-6 and transforming growth factor(TGF)-β1 in patient with gastric cancer and their clinical significances. Methods: Total 50 patients with gastric cancer(observation group) and 50 healthy controls(control group) were enrolled as subjects from January 2009 to January 2010. Levels of serum IL-17, IL-6 and TGF-β1 were detected and compared by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), and relationship between levels of serum IL-17, IL-6 and TGF-β1 and the clinical pathological characteristics was also analyzed. Results: Compared with healthy controls, patients with gastric cancer showed higher levels of serum IL-17, IL-6 and TGF-β1, with the value of(8.51±2.68) pg/ml,(7.81±5.41) pg/ml and(1093.42± 831.21) pg/ml respectively(P0.01). The concentration of serum IL-17 and TGF-β1 had no significant differences between age, sex, tumor stage, histological differentiation, tumor location and tumor size(P0.05), while serum IL-6 had positive relation with tumor size(P0.05). There were no relations between expression of IL-17 and IL-6, TGF-β1. Conclusion: Increased expression of serum IL-17, IL-6 and TGF-β1 might be involved in the development of gastric cancer. IL-6 and TGF-β1 might not be the stimulating factors for inducing IL-17 generation in peripheral blood in gastric cancer.
