Abstract

Co-composting of night soil sludge and wood shaves was made in forced-aeration static pile system, and changes of tem- perature, oxygen, moisture and content of volatile substance during composting were analyzed. When the mixing ratio of sludge and wood shaves was 1∶1.5 (by volume) in pilot scale, the duration of the hermophilic phase was long enough to conform to the sanitary standard of the non-hazardous treatment of night soil. The oxygen consumption rate was the highest at the end of temperature in- creasing stage, and it decreased after the hermophilic phase. The moisture and content of volatile substance decreased during the whole composting period, and tended to be indeclinable eventually. They decreased 17% and 10.4% respectively at the end of com- posting.
