Abstract

By an arc discharge technique we have grown carbon nanotubes with diameters of 0\^5nm using an anode filled with carbon nanotubes. These nanotubes are in the form of the innermost tube of multiwall nanotubes. This indicates that carbon nanotubes with diameters smaller than those of C 60 are physically possible.
