Abstract

Lao-zi and Zhuang-zi's doctrine deeply affected the spiritual world of Chinese people of almost every dynasty and every social class. In religion and culture perspective, the essence of Lao-zi's doctrine is its ethics and a spirit of nature, while the essence of Zhuang-zi's doctrine is its concept of humanity and a spirit of art. They would serve as an important base for the construction of harmony culture in contemporary China, given an appropriate transformation.
