Abstract
Since the late 18thcentury, the modern bridge has been undergoing for more than 200 years , and the bridge span-length has been raised from less than 100m to approaching 2000m by the end of 20thcentury.The development of long-span suspension and arch bridge in the first half of 20thcentury, and two most outstanding achievements in the second half of 20th century : the renaissance of cable-stayed bridge and the application of pre-stressed concrete brought about the innovations of modern construction method and provided the condition for the sea-crossing bridge projects by the end of 20thcentury.In this paper the major technical innovations in the world's modern bridge development made by developed countries is introduced in order to encourage the young generating of Chinese bridge engineer of young generating in making great efforts for the original creation of bridge technology during the practice of bridge construction in the 21stcentury.
