Abstract
Aim: To detect microvessel density(MVD) and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in cerebral astrocytoma, and investigate the relationship among VEGF, MVD, and the grade of cerebral astrocytoma. Methods: A total of 65 cases of cerebral astrocytoma tissue and 8 cases of normal brain tissue were collected. MVD and the expression of VEGF were detected by the method of SABC immunohistochemistry. Results: The VEGF positive rate (63.1%) and MVD(46.70±24.02) in astrocytoma were significantly higher than that of normal control. The expression levels of VEGF and MVD increased with the increase of pathologial grading(P0.05). Conclusion:Detecting the expression of VEGF is helpful to evaluate the biological behavior of cerebral astrocytoma.
