Abstract
The prediction of radio wave propagation characteristic can provide theoretical guide for designing a wireless communication system. It is necessary to consider every ray emitted from radio resource when the ray-tracing method is applied to predicting the path of radio wave between transmitter and receiver. So,the time of simulation is relatively long, and the occupation of memory is great, and they are proportional to the distance between transmitter and receiver. However, the paths between transmitter and receiver can be determined analytically based on geometric optics in straight rectangular tunnels without the step of ray-tracing.Next,the level of received signal is calculated by basic electromagnetic theory. This mathematic model is accomplished by MATLAB.The complexity of simulation of ray-tracing method is greatly reduced and do not correlate with the distance between transmitter and receiver. From the results of simulation and theory, this method has the same exactness as that of dedicated software Wireless-Insite,as well as lower complexity of computing. The conclusion is that this new method can effectively and accurately predict the characteristic of radio wave propagation in rectangular tunnel.
