Abstract

Objective To investigate whether the serum level of cardiac troponin I(cTnI)at 7 days after acute myocardial infarction(AMI)was predictive of the prognosis of patients. Methods One hundred and seventeen patients with AMI were included in this program. The levels of cTnI at 7 days after AMI were measured by chemoluminescence technique.Major cardiovascular events(MACEs)were recorded in admission and follow-up period. We analyzed the correlation between the serum levels of cTnI and the incidence of MACEs according to different therapies, drug or delayed percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).Results Compared with those in controls, the levels of cTnI were significantly increased at 7 days after AMI(P0.01).At 7 days after AMI the levels of cTnI in 30.8% of patients dropped back to baseline. The incidence of MACEs was significantly lower in patients with cTnI1.5 μg/L than that in the patients with cTnI≥1.5 μg/L(2.8% vs 35.8%,P0.01).The serum levels of cTnI were higher in patients with MACEs than that in patients without MACEs(P0.05).No MACEs occurred in 18 patients who received delayed PCI.Conclusion Prognosis in patients with high cTnI concentrations is not optimistic and delayed PCI may improve it.
