Abstract

Acetophenone-formaldehyde resin was synthesized by polycondensation of acetophenone and formaldehyde with NaOH as catalyst.The effect of molar ratio of formaldehyde and acetophenone,the amount of NaOH,reaction time on softening point and hydroxide value of acetophenone-formaldehyde resin was studied.The resin was characterized by FT-IR and ~1H-NMR.It was found that acetophenone-formaldehyde resin with softening point of 80.0℃ and hydroxide value of 23.3 mgKOH/g was prepared when the molar ratio of formaldehyde and acetophenone was 1∶1,the amount of NaOH was 3.0 wt% and reaction time was 7 hours.The FT-IR and ~1H-NMR results showed that the α-H of the methyl of acetophenone reacted with formaldehyde by way of polycondensation.
