An Analysis of the Interannual Variability of Precipitation in the Tropical Indian Ocean

The analysis discloses that the major mode of interannual variability of the precipitation in the tropical Indian Ocean is of dipole pattern,which shows that the eastern and western Indian Oceans are out of phase in precipitation.At the same time,the major interannual mode shows a high correlation with ENSO.The period analysis also finds that the dipole like a precipitation pattern in the tropical Indian Ocean has dominant periods of not ony 1.5 years but also 4 years.
