Abstract
By field survey, there are 264 species (including subspecies, varieties, and forms) of vascular plants of rural courtyard in the central part of Jiangsu province. Among them, 2 families, 21 genera and 36 species of cultivated plants are not recorded in Flora of Jiangsu. According to their cultivated purpose, those plants can be mainly assigned to ornamental, afforesting, edible, and officinal types. Based on the analysis of their life spectrum, the results show that herbs are predominant while arbors, shrubs and liana are relatively few. Perennial herbs with 101 species are leading of 165 herbaceous species, accounting for 38.26% in total species. However, only 50 of those species are native ones, most of them are common weeds and the rest are exotic introduced plants. Based on analysis on the characteristics of those plants, some suggestions are put forward on how to manage and nurse those cultivated plants in rural courtyard.
