Abstract
Objective To evaluate the extent of stage Ⅲ Angiostrongylus cantonensis infection in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Centre. Method Samples of Achatina fulica were collected from 10 universities in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Centre. Stage Ⅲ larvae were isolated by enzyme digestion. Infection rate and the extent of infection were recorded for comparison. Result Achatina fulica was found in 8 out of the 10 universities. The infection rate in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Centre was 11.8% (76/642). The extent of infection was 872 worms per infected snail, with the highest number of infection was 15725 worms/snail and the smallest was 17/snails. Snails collected from Sun Yat-sen University had higher infection rate (22% ,56/255,1007 worms/snail) than the snails collected from other universities. Conclusion The infection rate and the extent of infection of Achatina fulica in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Centre were smaller than other districts in Guangzhou.
