Abstract

The geotectonic position of study area lies in the southern margins of the Zhungeer depression and Dalongkou depression, which belong to the Urumchi piedmont depression. The study area exposes stratums from Paleozoic to Cenozoic. The mainly coal-bearing stratums are Jurassic Badaowan formation (J1b) and middle-Jurassic Xishanyao formation (J2x). The low-Jurassic Badaowan formation (J1b), a coal-bearing clastic rock formation , is a suite of river-swamp faces sediment. The middle Jurassic Xishanyao formation (J2x), a coal-bearing clastic rock formation, is a suite of neritic lake-shore lake-lake edge delta-turf swamp facies sediment. The coal bed of Badaowan formation is distributed at Wugonghe-Dahongshan. The bed includes 13-23 coal seams, the mineable position is 8-19 seams. The coal is mainly steam coal and steam-fat coal. The coal seam of Xishanyao formation is mainly distributed at Sangonghe. The coal-bearing seam is 11 seams and the mineable layer is 10. The main coal type is jet coal. The coal-bearing formation suffered deformation during the Yenshen movement and the Himalaya movement after formation. Strong tectonic activity has formed a series of folds and faults from the south to north in the study area. These faults and folds caused great destruction to coal seam in study area.
