CBCT Analysis for the Skeletal Structure of Temporomandibular Joint of Adults in High-angle of Skeletal Malocclusion ClassIII

Abstract

Objective: To analyse the skeletal structure of temporomandibular joint(TMJ) of adults in high-angle of skeletal malocclusion ClassⅢ by using cone beam computed tomography(CBCT).Methods: Thirty normal occlusion adults(60 joints)and thirty adults(60 joints) in high-angle of skeletal malocclusion ClassⅢ were undergone CBCT in the intereuspal position.Reconstructed images of TMJ were analysed statistically with Ez3D 2009 software.Results: In the ClassⅢ sample,there was no statistically significant between sides,but statistically significant difference(P0.01) was observed between normal occlusion group and the Class III group.Conclusion: The structures of bilateral TMJs are relatively symmetry.There are significantly differences of skeletal structure of TMJ between normal occlusion group and the Class III group.
