Abstract
Biirgerliche Gesellschaft, the starting point of Marxist critique of capitalism, developed with modern capitalism. There were intellectual origins to the concept and multi-meanings beyond. The concept of biirgerliche Gesellschaft emerged with modern bourgeoisie and came into being in Hegel as a core idea, which involved influences exerted by Locke,Montes-quieu and Scottish Enlightenment.By turning upside down Hegel's understanding,Marx approached to burgerliche Gesellschaft and gradually focused his interest on material social relations. With a criticism of bourgeois political economics,Marx found the intrinsic contra-diction of the capitalist mode of production.
