Clinical Observation on Scalp Acupuncture plus Motortherapy for Post-stroke Depression

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of combined scalp acupuncture and motortherapy for treating post-stroke depression.Methods A total of 108 patients with post-stroke depression were randomized into group A(n=44),group B(n=36),and group C(n=28).In addition to the conventional management and antidepressant drugs prescribed to the three groups,scalp acupuncture and motortherapy were given to group A,scalp acupuncture alone to group B,and motortherapy to group C.The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD),Modified Edinburgh-Scandinavia Stroke Scale(MESSS),Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE),and Barthel Index were adopted in evaluation.Results After treatment,the indexes of the three groups were significantly different from they were before the treatment(P0.01).The indexes of group A had marked differences compared with that of group B and C(P0.01,P0.05).The indexes of group B had significant difference compared with that of group C(P0.01,P0.05).Conclusion The combination of scalp acupuncture and motortherapy is an effective way for post-stroke depression.
