Abstract
Objective This study is to evaluate the effect of oral rotavirus attenuated live vaccine (ORV) against rotavirus diarrhea among children who were hospitalized under five years old. Methods 838 cases of rotavirus diarrhea being in hospital from 2007 to 2009 were matched according to gender, age, residence in Tianjin children's hospital. Vaccine efficacy was calculated of ORV with 95% confidence interval (CI). Results The vaccine efficacy of one dose ORV was 70. 8% (95% CI 57. 5%-80. 0%),which in children of 2-22 months old was better than those of 12-23 months old (81. 3% and 54. 0%,respectively). Conclusion We found that one dose ORV was moderately effective for preventing hospitalized rotavirus diarrhea.
