On the social function of music fu in the Han and Jin Dynasties

Music fu is a kind of literary work describing music and dance. In addition to describing music and dance, music fu in the Han and Jin Dynasties carried the two important social functions of political enlightenment and entertainment. Its function of political enlightenment was often related to moral content to purify people’s spirit through description of music and dance. It also pursued music’s entertainment function. The two functions of music fu coexisted in the Han and Jin Dynasties, but its political enlightenment function was replaced by entertainment function in the Six Dynasties.
