Study on motility of delayed gastric emptying by ultrasonography

AIM In order to find out a convenient method to study delated gastric emptying(DGE)of paients with NUD,motility measurement by ultrasonography was carried out.METHODS The gastric emptying time(GET)of liquid,semiliquid and solid meals in 30 normal subjects and 65 patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia(NUD)was measured by ultrasonography.The differences of the GET of the three kinds of meals,the feature of the symptoms amd the therapeutic effect of domperidone in pa tints with DGE were studied.RESULTS Of the 65 patients with NUD,13 patients showed DGE for solid meal,11 patients(84.6%)also showed DGE for semiliquid meal and only one patient showed DGE(7.7%)for liquid meal.DGE in solid and semiliquid meals revealed highly positive rate than that for liquid meal.The main symptoms in patients with DGE were postprandial bloating,early satiety and anorexia,while NUD patients with normal gastric emptying had abdominal pain.Domperidone could markedly abolish symptoms in patints with DGE and shorten the GET for solid meal from 5.22±0.75 hr before treatment to 4,00±0.50 hr after treatment(P0.01).CONCLUSION Ultrasonography appeared to be an acurate,safe and useful method in studying GET.
