Abstract
Based on the working mechanism of composite foundation, the settlement of composite foundation is divided into two parts: the compressive deformation of the reinforced area and that of the soil under the reinforced area. Calculation of the complex modulus of the former is based on the theory of elasticity. The vertical additional stress in the soil under the reinforced area is calculated with the Mindlin solution in the semi-infinite elastic space, and then the settlement of the soil under the reinforced area can be derived by using the layerwise summation method.
