Abstract

There are eight categories and twenty-six rhyme groups of ancient phonology in Yao Wentian's(姚文田) Guyinxie(古音谐) which divide Ping Shang Qu(平上去) of the rhymes of Guangyun(广韵)into seventeen rhyme groups and Ru Sheng(入声) of the rhymes of Guangyun(广韵) into nine rhyme groups. The achievement of Yao's ancient phonology is the independence of Rusheng(入声) and Ju(匊部) rhyme group And the failure of Yao's ancient phonology is that in his phonology there is no Wu group(物部) and no separation of Ji group(缉部) and He group(盍部).His another failure is that he matchesZhi group(卩部) with Zhen group(真部).
