Abstract
Histologicsl stucture of duodenal mucous membrane epithelium of Zaocys dhumnades was observed with light and electron microscopes. Results: Rugae of the mucous membrane were complex. The Main rugae were“Z”_shaped.From which a large number of irregular lateral processes branched and anastomosed. No duodenal glands was observed. Epithelium of mucous membrane was simple or pseudostratified epithelium which was chiefly composed of columnar and goblet cells. The number ratio of columnar cells to goblet cells was about 2∶1. There were quite a few of small granules at the top cytoplasm of columnar cells which were nearly 0.16μm in diameter. On the surface of columnar cells there were dense microvillus, some of which branached. The upper part of goblet cells were full of large mucinogen granules which were about 1.9μm in diameter and strong positive in PAS reaction. Consideration of this paper: The complex mucous membrane rugae and abundant goblet cells in epithelium of duodenum of zaocys dhumnades adapted to its habits of devouring preys as a whole.
